Material innovation meets forming technology – expanding sustainable applications with Dry Fiber solutions
Kiefel and Fiberdom are combining their expertise to boost the development of fiber-based packaging. Fiberdom is contributing Duranova™, a patented material made from FSC-certified fibers, that is fully plastic-free, recyclable, and home compostable. Kiefel is adding its Dry Fiber forming technology to the equation.
The result: high-performance packaging that is both cost-efficient and resource-friendly. First applications such as cup lids, margarine container lids, and sturdy single-use cutlery are already undergoing final tests in our labs and are close to market readiness.
Efficiency combined with reduced resource consumption
Where Wet Fiber processes are typically applied, Dry Fiber offers clear advantages: significantly lower water consumption, improved energy efficiency, and optimized material use – while still delivering strength and formability. The combination of Dry Fiber forming and Duranova™ unlocks new opportunities, especially for complex 3D geometries.
The partnership with Kiefel is a strong endorsement of our material technology and shows we’re ready to scale up with major partners tackling the sustainability challenges of today
“Together with Fiberdom, we are expanding our technology portfolio with market-ready Dry Fiber solutions that combine recyclability, compostability, and cost-efficiency,” adds Sven Engelmann, Vice President Technology at Kiefel.
Looking ahead
This collaboration paves the way for replacing conventional plastics with fiber-based alternatives. Manufacturers benefit from a broader range of solutions while being fully prepared for upcoming regulations such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
